February 3, 2008
"My Vows to the Lord I will fulfill, before all His people." (Ps. 116:14)
As in previous years February 2 has been celebrated as the Day of Consecrated Life. Most Rev. John W. Yanta, the Apostolic Administrator and former Bishop of Amarillo, and the religious of the diocese gathered at the DeFalco Retreat Center to mark this event on the afternoon of Sunday, February 3, 2008.
After the Liturgy for Evening Prayer, which we held at the chapel of the retreat center, we moved to the dining room and had dinner together, and a time of sharing with the bishop and all religious who attended the event. The communities represented were, among others: The Order of Friars Minor, the Franciscans Sisters of Mary Immaculate, The Benedictine Sisters from Canyon, the School Sisters of Saint Francis, the Missionaries Catechists of St. Joseph, and the Disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ.
His Excellency was, as always, very encouraging to each of the religious communities represented there, and we, on our part, showed our appreciation for the outstanding pastoral care that bishop Yanta provided for us, consecrated persons in this diocese, for the last eleven years.
This day was a beautiful one as the religious and the former bishop of the diocese of Amarillo rejoiced together in the gift of our vocation to the consecrated life.
