March 9, 2008
Something that is become a tradition in the Diocese of Amarillo is the annual Respect Life Banquet, the main fund-raising event to support the Respect Life Ministries of our diocese.
The banquet was held at the Heritage Hall in the Amarillo Civic Center on the evening of March 9, 2008. The Hall was completely filled with Pro-Life activists and supporters, not only from the Catholic Church (Could anyone call himself a Catholic who does not oppose abortion?), but also from other Christian denominations who uphold the sanctity of human life in all its stages, from conception to natural death.
During the banquet the audience was delighted to hear from a number of noteworthy speakers, including our own new Bishop, Most Rev. Patrick J. Zurek, as well as Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priest for Life and the General Moderator of the Missionaries of the Gospel of Life. The key-note speaker was Dr. Pia de Solenni, Ph. D. who delivered an insightful speech about the importance of family life for the good of the individual and of society.
We wish to thank those who, through their generosity and thoughtfulness, made it possible for us to attend this annual event.
