Our beloved Foundress, Mother John Marie Stewart, DLJC, will celebrate her 82nd birthday on December 5, 2008. All the Disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ rejoice for the gift of her life and her resounding “Yes!” that brought our community into existence.
Mother John Marie, who was raised Methodist, converted to Catholicism as a young adult. After straying from her faith into secular humanism for a number of years, she had a remarkable re-conversion experience in 1969. Eventually the Lord led her to begin a new religious community with a Charismatic spirituality.
She devoted the rest of her life to this enterprise, and in 1991 the community that she founded received the approval of the Church as a religious institute of diocesan right in the diocese of Amarillo, Texas. The Disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ is the first community sprung from the Charismatic Renewal to receive canonical status.
We pray that the Lord will bless our Mother Foundress with health and joy, and may she be among us for many years to come. Jesus is Lord!
